The full rent is distributed in proportion to bedroom area. This method is simple, but it effectively gives larger rooms a larger share of all rent, including shared space.
Shared space + bedroom size
The apartment is valued at one rent-per-area rate. Each roommate gets an equal share of the common-space cost, while private bedroom cost follows bedroom area.

How should couples affect a rent split?
